Moortown and Meanwood Ward, Leeds, Campaigns.

I have been selected to stand as a Labour Party Candidate for the Moortown Ward in Leeds in the Local Elections in 2008. I will oppose race hate crime, put Residents first and listen to Residents.

VOTE LABOUR - GET LABOUR
VOTE LIB DEM - GET TORY

MARKS & SPENCER, MOORTOWN, LEEDS.
M&S want to develop their Store. This would involve demolishing the Chained Bull Pub, expanding the Store and having more car parking. This area is already busy with traffic. The Labour Team at Moortown will be monitoring any development.

PEDESTRIAN CROSSINGS

I am campaigning for traffic light controlled pedestrian crossings on Harrogate Road and Shadwell Lane (near M&S) as it is unsafe to cross these roads to access all the shops. I would welcome any help you would be prepared to give this campaign.

YORKSHIRE BANK PLAYING FIELDS.

I am campaigning to stop development on this Site. Yorkshire Bank submitted plans for development in 1998 and in 2006. Proposals were withdrawn after meetings with Residents, who were furious with the Lib Dem Councillors who said that nothing could be done to stop the plans. This land should be recreational land for the Community - our green spaces must be protected for our children and for future generations. At a recent Community Meeting organised by Consultants for Yorkshire Bank, the Consultants made it clear that a planning application for housing could be submitted regardless of the Local Community's wishes. Well, it could be submitted - but we could fight against it. At the latest 'Consultation' Meeting, Spawforths (Yorkshire Bank's Consultants) produced maps showing proposals for the development of the fields. Proposals for approximately 90 houses plus a small 5-a-side football pitch for Community use. The maps showed the loss of most of the fields. Spawforths have said this proposed development is not fixed. Local residents at this 'Consultation' Meeting were clearly against this development. Moortown Primary School who have used part of the fields as a school playing field would lose their playing field under these plans. Labour will be campaigning against this development and will support the local Community in their fight against these plans.
