Moortown and Meanwood Ward, Leeds, more Campaigns.
ROAD SAFETY.
PEDESTRIAN CROSSINGS.
Pedestrian crossings are essential nowadays, with the volume of traffic on our roads. They save lives. We need more pedestrian crossings throughout the Moortown and Meanwood Ward. One spot that springs to mind is the Green Road junction with Stonegate Road in Meanwood - which would definitely benefit from a traffic light controlled pedestrian crossing and traffic lights.
Our Action Group successfully campaigned for a zebra crossing locally and the crossing has made it much safer for everyone - particularly children and the elderly.

Linda Cullen and Richard, our local Police Community Support Officer at the Zebra Crossing that Linda Cullen campaigned for.
20 MPH ZONES
I am campaigning for more 20mph speed limits in residential areas, for the safety of everyone in the Ward - particularly children and the elderly.
20MPH SPEED LIMITS SAVE LIVES AND CAN REDUCE INJURIES. Let's put Safety first!!!!
Community Facilities.
There are not enough Community Facilities in Moortown. There is land that could support more facilities. In particular, children and teenagers do not have enough facilities and resources. There aren't enough playgrounds, skateparks and youth clubs.
Moortown needs:-
A LIBRARY
COMMUNITY CENTRE
COMMUNITY CAFE
SKATE PARK
PLAYGROUND
INDOOR CLUBS
BENCHES.
LET'S WORK TOGETHER TO GET MORE FACILITIES FOR MOORTOWN, TO IMPROVE THE WARD. IT HAS BEEN NEGLECTED FOR TOO LONG. LABOUR WILL WORK WITH YOU, NOT AGAINST YOU.
CRIME
Fabian Hamilton MP and Gerry Harper, Fabian Hamilton's Parliamentary Assistant, work hard to help reduce crime and anti-social behaviour. The Lib Dems have not tackled this issue despite our Labour Government putting measures in place to do so. Some parts of Moortown Ward are suffering levels of crime and anti-social behaviour that are above average. Linda Cullen says," No-one should have to live with the misery that crime and anti-social behaviour cause."
Moortown Filling Station.
Moortown Petrol Station on Harrogate Road have applied for planning permission to expand. Local residents are opposed to this and have my full support. Expansion would be likely to mean more pollution, noise, fumes and traffic for local residents - some of whose houses back on to this filling station. An expanded shop would be unnecessary as there is a Co-op here already.
Fir Trees Primary School.
This school is no longer in use as a Primary School and at the moment is used as a facility for a High School. There is a campaign starting to retain this school site (with the playing fields) for Community use. The present Community Centre (Open House) is too small for the Community's needs and it is very well used. The school site would provide scope for Community activities to be increased - not only for residents living here but for residents in Moortown generally. Developers are targeting Leeds at the moment and it would be fantastic to keep this site as a Community asset rather than it be sold for development.
